Merge PDF files
Combine several PDFs into one document. Put them in the right order, merge, download. Nothing leaves your device.
Your file never leaves your computer — nothing is uploaded. The PDFs are combined in this browser tab. Up to 200 MB in total.
Drop PDFs here
or — you can add more later
Drag the files into order, or use the arrows. The first file in the list comes first in the merged PDF.
Sharing the result online? Put it in Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive and turn it into a free flipbook: readers leaf through it on your own site instead of downloading it.
Merging PDFs is one of those jobs that comes up every week and never justifies buying software: a cover letter and a CV, a quote and its terms, twelve monthly newsletters that should become one yearbook. Most free websites that do it ask you to upload every file first. This one does the work in your browser instead. The files are read from your disk into this tab, combined by code that runs on your own device, and the result is offered as a download. Nothing is sent to us, so there is nothing for us to keep.
How to merge PDFs
- Add the files. Drop them on the area above or choose them. You can add more at any time; each one is checked as it arrives, so a damaged or password-protected file is flagged straight away with its name.
- Set the order. Drag a file up or down with the mouse, or use the arrow buttons, which also work on a phone and with the keyboard.
- Merge and download. The merged file is named after the first file in the list, with -merged added.
What is kept, and what is not
Every page is copied as it is: text stays text, so it remains searchable and selectable, images keep their quality, and links inside a page keep working. Form fields and page sizes are carried over too, so an A4 letter followed by a US Letter attachment stays exactly that.
The bookmarks of the individual files are not carried over, because two outlines cannot be merged in a way that makes sense without knowing what you intended. If the merged document is long, add a fresh set with our bookmark tool: one bookmark per original file is usually exactly what readers need.
File size and phones
The merged PDF is roughly the sum of its parts. The limit is 200 MB in total, because all files have to fit in your browser's memory at the same time. That is plenty for documents, but a set of print-quality brochures can reach it. If the result is too big to email or publish, run it through the compress tool afterwards.
On a phone, choose the files from the Files app or your cloud storage app. The arrows make reordering easy on a touchscreen, where dragging is awkward.
Password-protected files
An encrypted PDF is refused with a message that names the file. The tool does not try to remove or get around the protection. Open the file in a PDF reader with its password, save an unprotected copy, and add that instead.
From one PDF to a flipbook
A merged yearbook, a catalogue assembled from separate sections, or a collection of newsletters reads much better as a page-flip flipbook than as a download. Put the merged file in your Google Drive, Dropbox or OneDrive and turn it into a flipbook you can embed on your website. Replace the file later and the flipbook shows the new version by itself.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDFs uploaded to a server?
No. They are read and merged inside your browser. Nothing is sent to Toombler or any third party.
How many files can I merge?
As many as fit in 200 MB together. That limit comes from your browser's memory, not from an account or a subscription.
Can I change the order on my phone?
Yes. Use the arrow buttons next to each file. Dragging works with a mouse; the arrows work everywhere.
Are bookmarks and links preserved?
Links on the pages are kept. The bookmarks of the separate files are not combined; add new ones with the bookmark tool if the merged document needs a table of contents.
Why is a file refused?
Usually because it is password-protected or damaged. The message names the file. Save an unprotected copy in a PDF reader and add that.
