STUDIO AVELINE Selected work · identity, print, wayfinding
Havenlicht Festival IDENTITY, PRINT, SIGNAGE · 2024 A four-day festival on a working dock, with the ships still moving. Everything had to be readable from thirty metres and removable in one night. We built the identity around a single angled bar that doubles as an arrow. Forty-one signs, two type sizes, one colour. The crew put it up in six hours. Studio Aveline
Rijnmond Library WAYFINDING · 2023 Eleven floors, two buildings joined in 1978 by someone in a hurry. The brief said 'signage'; the problem was that the floor numbers did not match between the two halves. We renamed the floors before we designed a single sign. That took four months of meetings and is the only reason the signs work. Studio Aveline
Bakkerij Steen IDENTITY, PACKAGING · 2023 A bakery that had used the same paper bag since 1961 and did not want a new one. They wanted the old one to print properly. We redrew the original mark from a photograph of a 1970s shopfront, fixed the spacing, and left everything else alone. Nobody noticed, which was the brief. Studio Aveline
The studio Three people, one room above a bicycle shop. We take four or five projects a year, which is fewer than we could and roughly what we can do well. We do not pitch for free. If that rules us out of your process, it rules us out honestly and early, and we would rather find that out in the first email than the third meeting. WHAT WE DO — Identity and naming — Print, from a card to a catalogue — Wayfinding and signage — Type selection and licensing — The awkward second year, when the system meets reality HOW WE CHARGE A fixed price per project, agreed before we start, in three payments.
