KESTREL Rowing Club · members' quarterly · no. 48 A season that did not go to plan, and was better for it We lost the first four regattas of the season. By June the committee was having the kind of conversation clubs have when the results stay red: whether to change the coaching, whether to change the crews, whether the problem was the boats. What actually changed was the start time. Moving the Tuesday outing from 18:30 to 18:00 gave us forty extra minutes of usable water in September, and attendance went from eleven to nineteen. Six weeks later we won at Marlow. Correlation is not causation, but the committee has stopped discussing the boats. Kestrel Rowing Club · founded 1974

Juniors are up, masters are flat, and the eighteen-to-twenty-five group is down again — eleven people, which is the lowest since 2011. If you know why, the committee would genuinely like to hear it, including the answers we will not enjoy.

The boathouse roof The east side has been leaking since the storm in February. We have three quotes, and the committee is proposing the middle one. Quote A 11,400 Patch repair, five-year guarantee Quote B 19,850 Full east side, twenty-year guarantee Quote C 31,200 Whole roof, insulation, thirty years Quote B costs about 55 per member, spread over two years, and we would not need to touch the boat replacement fund. Quote A is cheaper now and we will be having this conversation again in 2031. The vote is at the AGM on 3 December. If you cannot come, proxy forms are behind the bar and with the secretary. AGM · 3 December, 19:30, clubhouse 1 Minutes of the last meeting 2 Captain's report and the season just gone 3 Accounts to 30 September 4 The roof: vote on quotes A, B and C 5 Subscriptions for next year (proposal: held flat) 6 Election of officers — two posts uncontested, one open 7 Any other business, submitted in writing by 26 November Everything on the agenda, including the roof quotes in full, is on the members' page. If you would rather have it on paper, tell the secretary and it will be in the clubhouse pigeonhole with your name on it.
